Everyone wants to be money savvy when booking aeroplane flights as holidays can become rather expensive pretty quickly.

Once you begin to add up your accommodation, flights and spending money you question whether it’s really worth it?

What would be useful is to know the best time of the year to book flights.

Well thanks to Opodo, we now know the best time to book flights! The flight comparison website calculates the best day and month to save the most money on flights!

How?

By comparing the average flight price of return flights from the UK to all destinations purchased between November 2015 and October 2016.

The Results 

From their research is had indicated that the cheapest day to book your holiday is a Saturday or Sunday.

Their data reveals: “Booking on Saturday saves the average passenger 3.95% (5.78% domestic, 3.43% short haul, 2.63% long haul) while Sunday is 3.37% cheaper (6.68% domestic, 2.58% short haul, 0.84% long haul).”

September and October see the best months to bag yourself a cheap flight.

Opodo explained: “Book in October to save 10.6% (13.89% domestic, 13.29% short haul, 4.62% long haul) or in September to save 10.18% (9.07% domestic, 13.67% short haul, 7.81% long haul) off the yearly average price.”

When it’s added together it becomes a lot. Saving 4.62% on a £500 flight means around £25. Whilst saving 13% on a short haul flight means an extra £18 to spend on holiday!
